Seneca is an online platform that offers free effective and engaging interactive learning and revision for students. They cover educational materials for mainly GCSEs and A-Levels, with a wide variety of subjects.
The colour blue symbolises symbolises wisdom and serenity. As a calming, safe colour it reassures the students that are stressed due to exams that the reliability of Seneca will ensure their knowledge grows. The vibrancy of the colour evokes a sense of positivity and motivation within the students.
The minimalist design conveys the idea of clarity and focus. As a login portal, there's a clear distinction between the different sign-ups provided for teachers and parents opposed to the main for students. The house style of Seneca is simplistic and more resigned compared to BBC Bitesize due to their target audience being aimed at a higher age range than a variety of young students to older.
The multimedia element of the video playing just above the fold demonstrates to new users the different features included in Seneca, from a range of interactive questions to their new 'Ask Amelia' AI feature. This is effective promotion as it shows the efficiency Seneca provides in their various features, as it shows the digestible amounts of information they provide and the ways they test the users knowledge later.
Once logged in, your personalised home page will show your recent progress in courses and allows you to continue where you left off in those subjects. On an education website, it is more likely for the user to know what subject and exam board they are looking for than need to explore various options. Due to this, the search bar is the most prominent navigation tool on this area of the page. However, a small navigation bar is still displayed at the very top of the page incase the user requires a selection to look through. The website is mostly used for personal use, however, teachers are able to set students assignments which would be emphasised on the page to ensure that students don't miss the assignment.
Below the fold, Seneca has a personalised achievement board through the task of collecting as many locations as possible in your learning to fill the map. At the end of a course, students are occasionally given the option between two locations to aadd to their map. This interactive feature helps to boost motivation for completing learning tasks in hope of earning an extra location. All of these achieved over different courses over the years will be displayed on this map and when hovered over the dots you can view the information of the location.
The navigation within this website is easy and straight-forward. Within your subject, it has a drop-down feature on the left side of the mini topics within the four main themes. It shows how much you've completed for each area to outline where the user should focus their learning next. Overview is the general area of information provided before the user advances with the studying features. Exam prep is a slightly premium feature that allows you to take more exam-focused questions. Assignments is an area that will only be in use if you're connected to your class onto Seneca and not just for personal use.
The overview learning includes illustrated information and follows with questions to ensure that by constantly referring to the content to answer questions cements the answer in your memory for retrieval. The content is broken down into short, digestible segments to make it easier to memorise the information.
